Welcome!

Hi Everybody!

Welcome to the O.S.A’s. in S.A. from the U.S.A. - 7,000 miles away. We hope you will think our experiences and reflections as interesting, relevant, even exciting, educational and worth the telling. May they unfold in a way that leads one to wonder what the next missive may reveal of the people here. In most ways we are the same and in other ways you will see that our encounters are different, educational, even exciting and oh well, possibly dangerous,so keep alert.

You may be asking the question, why in heaven’s name are we here when there is so much in need of accomplishing back home. I’ll try to give an answer recognizing that each person will have a different story to tell to that question. For some unanswerable reason there is a depth of emotion that wells up in the heart, like never before. It stirs the mind creatively to a degree not felt before as it confronts the “why” things aren’t better and what can we do about it. A different world view is experienced, not thought of before and begs new approaches to finding relevant answers.

Oh yes, I forgot to tell you who we are. Three of us are Augustinians, two from the States and one from the Philippines. There are six American Augustinian Volunteers here for the year also. We are located a half hour drive from Durban. Stop by if you are passing through and oh, don’t forget to come back to this blog regularly. Our telephone number is: 27 31 765-7862
