As in all large cities throughout the world Durban, South Africa has its share of children living on the streets. In December, 1988, an organization called “StreetWise” began gathering young, vulnerable boys off the streets and into shelters. Molweni Zimele Centre – South Africa

The Malvern Prep students spent some time in a new service site, the Molweni Zimele Centre.  It was a tremendous experience for all involved. The Molweni Ziemle Centre is located near the Augustinian Mission in South Africa. It is a facility established in February 1997 with the aim of giving the mentally and physically challenged children of the Zulu community the opportunity to learn academically and to acquire the skills to be part of the larger community. One of the areas in which the Villanova student nurses and the seniors from the Malvern Prep School was St. Leo's School. St. Leo's Mission School for the Zulu community is located outside of Durban, South Africa serving the community of the Valley of 1,000 Hills through the Augustinian Parish of St. Leo's.
