Augustinians
Welcome New Affiliates
Villanova, PA – The Augustinians are happy to announce those
granted affiliation to the Order of St. Augustine, a special recognition
meriting distinguished service to an Augustinian community. This
recognition enables the new affiliates to share in the spiritual
benefits of the Order.
On August 27, an affiliation ceremony for those being recognized
was held at 5:00 P.M. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, Villanova,
PA. Rev. Michael F. DiGregorio, O.S.A., Assistant General of the
Order, presided over the ceremony. This year’s affiliates
include:
Anthony and Michele Alfano
Anthony and Michele Alfano have been associated with and influenced
by the Augustinians of our Province since 1978. Anthony attended
and graduated from Msgr. Bonner High School, where he learned about
our Augustinian way of life, and this love for the Order and Augustine
grew while he was a student at Villanova University. As an employee
of the university, Anthony has been a close friend and supporter
of the Province and the Order. He and his wife, Michele, have participated
in and celebrated our Augustinian liturgical life and Province events
as if already members of our Augustinian family.
Charles and Marianne Connolly, Jr.
Charles and Marianne Connolly have had a long relationship with the
Augustinians. Charlie has devoted much time to our educational institutions,
especially Malvern Preparatory School and Villanova University. Marianne
and Charlie have dedicated themselves to various philanthropic endeavors
with a spirit drawn from Saint Augustine. Charlie has become increasingly
involved in efforts to care for the sick and elder friars of our Province.
Charlie has offered his financial expertise in several fund raising
efforts to help our Augustinian Volunteers, our missions in Peru,
Japan and South Africa, prison ministry, health clinics and legal
clinics.
Michael and Kristin Dolan
Michael, with the support and encouragement of his wife, Kristin,
has had a long and dedicated relationship with our Province and
the Order. Michael attended Augustinian schools and came to work
for our Province in our Office of Communications. The son of a former
Augustinian professed, William Dolan, Michael learned early in life
about our Augustinian way of life. He brought all of that understanding
and spirit to his work for the Province and helped Fr. John Rotelle,
OSA, in the publication of many of the works of Saint Augustine
and Augustinians. He continues to be a member of the board overseeing
the publication of the works of Augustine in English.
Arthur and Betty Eccleston
Deacon Arthur Eccleston and his wife, Betty, are long time residents
of our parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Staten Island, New York.
Art has used his talents and expertise as a civil engineer to plan
and develop projects of the Province at Villanova University. Both
of them are grounded in a life of prayer and Christian service.
We mourn the recent death of Art, offer our condolences to Betty
and the family and take this opportunity to thank Art and Betty
for their love and support.

Peter and Jane Galetto
Peter Galetto and his wife, Jane, have a very long and caring relationship
with the Augustinians. Peter is the brother of our friar, Paul Galetto,
OSA, and Peter is a graduate of Saint Augustine Preparatory School,
Richland, NJ. Peter has generously supported the friars of that
school community and has learned to live our Augustinian way of
life and to incorporate that into his family life and his business
enterprises. His and his wife’s interest and dedication to
Saint Augustine School have fostered the growth of the school and
its impact on the local community of southern New Jersey.

Gary and Patricia Holloway
Gary and Patty have been associated with the Augustinians and with
our way of life for many years. They and their family have a longtime
connection with our friars at Malvern Preparatory School and Villanova
University. Gary attended both of these schools and so have their
children. They have generously and lovingly helped in our Province
efforts to care for the infirm and elder friars of the Province,
in the educational goals of our schools, as well as in our mission
efforts in Peru, South Africa, and here in the US.
Margaret Healy
Margaret Healy has a long history of involvement with the Augustinians
and our way of life and ministry. She has been a member of Our Mother
of Good Counsel Parish, Bryn Mawr, PA, for almost her entire life.
She has collaborated with the friars of that parish in many forms
of ministry, both liturgical and social. At Bryn Mawr College and
Rosemont College, she has followed the example of Saint Augustine,
as an educator and a mentor. Her advice, often sought after, has
been of great help to the Province.
Larry and Mary Legner
Larry came in contact with the Augustinians when he began teaching
at Msgr. Bonner High School in 1986. From 1987 to the present he
and his wife, Mary, have been part of the family that is the Malvern
Preparatory School community. As part of the Theology Department
and the Dean of Students, Larry has personified the Augustinian
charisms of graciousness, charity and compassion. Larry has established
and maintains the school’s Christian Service programs, in
which the students serve the poor and underprivileged nearby and
in other countries.
Bradley and Shirley MacDonald
Brad and Shirley MacDonald have been associated with the Augustinians
for over forty years. Brad attended Msgr. Bonner High School and
then was part of our Province’s formation program for four
years. The Augustinian ideals he learned from school and formation
have guided his life of faith and action ever since. Brad and Shirley
have been both generous benefactors to the Province and encouragers
of our friars and communities.
Charles and Joan Surber
Charlie and Joan Surber have been connected in a special way with
the Province and the Order since 1999. They are members of Saint
John the Evangelist Parish in Waynesville, North Carolina, where
they are very active in the ministries of that parish and its outreach
to the local community. They volunteer tirelessly at the retreat
house and help to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for the
retreatants who come to the Living Water Reflection Center. .
John R. and Therese Van Dyck
Ron (John R.) and Terri (Therese) Van Dyck have lived in Maggie
Valley, North Carolina for twenty years. They were there in the
Parish of Saint Margaret of Scotland and welcomed the friars who
went there in 1998. They were already living our way of life without
knowing it, and their care and concern for the friars made for an
ever-deepening relationship that has increased over the past ten
years. Ron has brought his woodworking skills to the beatification
of the sanctuary furnishings in the Church and Terri has brought
her artistic skills to decorating the Church and friary.
Said Rev. Donald F. Reilly, O.S.A.:
“The Augustinians have been blessed by the dedication and
support of these affiliates. We are humbled by their support of
the Augustinian way of life and rejoice in formally welcoming them
into the Augustinian family.”
