On Saturday, January 4, beginning the new decade of 2020, in the city of Cuzco, Peru the first Peruvian born Augustinian in over two centuries was ordained a bishop.
Bishop Edinson Farfan, O.S.A.
, a member of our Augustinian Vicariate of Chulucanas, was named by Pope Francis as the bishop of Chuquibambilla, a large geographical area outside of Cuzco. The prelature of Chuquibambilla was founded by the Italian province in 1968 and until last week, its previous bishops had been from Italy. Bishop Edinson just celebrated his 45th birthday and is now the youngest bishop in Peru.

Hearts on Fire
is a collection of short biographical sketches of saintly men and women venerated by the Augustinians. The entries follow the general calendar of the Order in 307 pages and recount the lives of 94 Saints, Blesseds and Servants of God who practiced Augustinian Spirituality in the pursuit of holiness.
This volume is a valuable companion for those who celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours according to the Augustinian calendar. The best sources available have been used to present profiles which are historically accurate, clear and up-to-date.

CONVERSION OF SAINT PAUL
“Let us confidently acknowledge and openly declare that Christ was crucified for our sake, proclaiming it with pride and joy, not with fear and shame. The apostle Paul saw in this reason for boasting. He could have told us many great and holy things about Christ: how as God he shared with his Father the work of creation, and how as man like us he was master of the world. But he would not glory in any of these wonderful things. God forbid that I should boast of anything, he said, except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
