Our Parishes

The Order of St. Augustine includes some 2,800 Augustinians in 47 countries throughout the world. The Province of St. Thomas of Villanova, founded in 1796, is comprised of the East Coast of the United States and international missions in Peru and Japan.

Below is a listing of the Augustinian parishes and schools of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova.

Our Parishes

Parish life created through communities of faith has held an important place in the Augustinian history in the United States, and it stems from their first foundation at St. Augustine Church in Philadelphia in 1796.

Today, the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova administers nine parishes in Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania, and four in Japan. These parishes are an active and visible sign of the Augustinian commitment to seek God together and to teach a love of God and neighbor.

The Province is composed of 116 friars who are involved in a variety of ministries. Approximately 100 friars are actively engaged in ministry; 40 are retired or infirm; five are in the formation process; eight are Japanese Friars ministering in four parishes in Japan. Our health care facility, St. Thomas of Villanova Monastery on the campus of Villanova University, makes it possible for us to provide for the needs of our elderly and infirm friars while they continue to enjoy full religious life in the Augustinian tradition.

As Augustinians of the St.Thomas of Villanova Province, we are proud of our history and the relationships we have built in our local communities. Our hearts are truly on fire because we have the opportunity to collaborate in community with others and to be of one mind and one heart on the way to God.

The Legacy of

St. Augustine in the Catholic Church

Augustine was a thoughtful, empathetic, and loving servant of God. He valued community, welcomed others, and treated them the way they deserved to be treated. Augustine also laid the foundation for the Order of St. Augustine. The Order continues to explore ways to care for those in great need both in our Province work throughout Massachusetts, New Jersey, and surrounding states and in our greater missions throughout the world.

We invite you to continue to learn about St. Augustine, his life, and his teachings.

Sign up for our e-newsletter, where we share news and updates on how we continue to follow in St. Augustine’s footsteps.
