Madonna Sutter comes to the Province from the Baldwin School (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), an independent K-8 girls school, steeped in academic excellence, where she served as director of philanthropy. Previous to her position at Baldwin, Madonna was the associate dean of external relations at Villanova University School of Business where she was responsible for an outreach and engagement initiative to the broad external community, in concert with the University’s Advancement team. She created and implemented a Business Leaders Forum which brought together members of the school’s nine advisory councils—many of whom she recruited—for networking and dialogue on important industry issues. She secured Forum sponsorships that ultimately allowed this annual venture to become self-sustaining. She had also held the position of vice president of institutional advancement at Rosemont College and served as Rosemont’s chief major gifts officer, reporting directly to the president. Prior to her time at Rosemont College, she served as the associate director of alumni relations at Villanova University, managing over 50 alumni chapters across the U.S. During her term, she recruited hundreds of alumni volunteers and increased alumni attendance at events by 30%. She has twice previously held the position of director of development, at Drexel University’s College of Business Administration (now Le Bow College of Business) and at Merion Mercy/Waldron Mercy Academy (Merion, Pa.).

Madonna holds a BA in Psychology and Elementary Education from Rosemont College and an MA in Educational Administration from Villanova University.

She is well acquainted with the Augustinians, not only from her experience working at Villanova University, but studying there as well. She is a longtime member of the parish of Saint Thomas of Villanova.

“I welcome Madonna to the provincial staff. Her vast experience in community relations and her success in fundraising for non-profits, as well as her knowledge of Augustinian values, will serve us well as director of advancement,” said Father Michael F. Di Gregorio, O.S.A.

“The Augustinian commitment of service to the poor and marginalized is something that has always resonated with me. I am thrilled to be in a position to advance Augustinian ministries, and have the opportunity to make a difference,” said Madonna.

Madonna is the mother of two sons, Michael and Mark, both graduates of Villanova University. She lives in Rosemont with her husband, Charles.

AUGUSTINIANS are members of the Order of Saint Augustine, an international Catholic religious community of men and women following the Rule of Saint Augustine. In the United States, there are three regional provinces of Augustinians. The Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova, in the east, sponsors Villanova University, Merrimack College, two high schools and over 14 parishes. They staff a variety of ministries, including inner-city ministries in the United States and missions in Japan and Peru. Augustinians collaborate with committed laywomen and men, their benefactors and friends, and draw on resources from their institutions and volunteers to bring Christian ideals into real life situations, especially for those in need around the world.
