In August 2014, the Augustinian Postulator General, Father Josef Sciberras from Rome, met with several people, Augustinians, relatives, friends, and others who knew Father Bill Atkinson, with the simple, yet daunting, challenge: to convince him of the virtuous life of Father Bill Atkinson.

Father Bill was in the Province’s novitiate when, in the winter of 1965, during recreation he was involved in an accident when the toboggan he was riding hit a tree. The accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. After intense rehabilitation, he made known his desire to continue  on his path to become an Augustinian. He re-entered the novitiate and began the long road, leading, ultimately, to his ordination as a priest in 1974.
