Bernard Edward Daly was born in Kells, County Meath, Ireland, on October 4, 1871, the son of James Daly and Mary Kiernan. After immigrating to the United States, he studied public scools in Lawrence, Massachusetts, where he was confirmed at Saint Mary’s Church by Archbishop Williams. Bernard entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania on May 4, 1897, and made profession of vows on May 4, 1898. He was professed solemnly on May 29, 1901. He was ordained by Bishop Prendergast at the Philadelphia Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, on Wednesday, February 5, 1902.
Father Daly served briefly at Saint Laurence Parish, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. In July, 1902, he was assigned to Saint John’s Parish in Schaghticoke, New York. In September, 1904, he became a member of the Province Mission Band with residence at Villanova. The following year, as he continued this ministry, he was assigned to the community at Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
From 1910 to 1918 he was rector at Thompkinsville on Staten Island, N.Y, and in 1918 returned both to the Mission Band and to the Villanova monastery.
Father Daly died at Saint Mary’s in Lawrence, Mass., on January 23, 1931 at the age of 60. He is buried in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Lawrence.
