Daniel Paul Fogarty was one of ten children of Edward Fogarty, a farmer, and Catherine Mackey, his wife. Daniel and his brother, Thomas, became members of the Villanova Province, and two other brothers became diocesan priests.
Daniel was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, on January 30, 1887. He attended Killea National School and Templemore National School, and was for a time employed as a laborer. He and his brother, Thomas, immigrated to the United States in 1904. They entered the novitiate together at Villanova, Pennsylvania, in 1907, professed vows on July 6, 1908, and that same year went to Rome to continue studies for the priesthood. They were ordained in Rome on July 13, 1913.
After ordination, Father Daniel Fogarty served as a teacher at Villanova for one year, and then as an assistant at St. Augustine Parish, Andover, Massachusetts for three years. He was sent to Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish, Bryn Mawr for a few months, but in the Chapter of 1918, was transferred back to Andover.
Father Fogarty was 31 when he died on October 18, 1918, a victim of the influenza epidemic. Well loved by both the young and the old of the parish, his death came as a sudden blow, and his passing was deeply mourned. Father Thomas Fogarty was celebrant of the Requiem Mass, after which Father Dan was buried in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
