John Dougherty was born on June 8, 1848 to John Dougherty and Sarah McHugh, in Lagnahoory, parish of Kilmacrenan, County Donegal, Ireland.
On July 27, 1900, he was vested at Villanova, Pa., taking the name Brother Augustine. He professed simple vows on August 2, 1906, and solemn vows on August 10, 1909. Father Middleton records, “He was a humble religious who worked the farm at Villanova.”
Brother Augustine died on March 23, 1917 at the age of 69. He is buried in the Community Cemetery at Villanova University.
