Bernard M. Albers, O.S.A.

1894 – 1944 (July 2)

July 2nd is the anniversary of the death of Father Bernard M. Albers.

Father Albers was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1894. He entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1915, and was ordained to the priesthood in St. Thomas’ Church in Villanova in 1922.

Father Albers taught in our high schools at Chicago and Aurora, Illinois until 1932, when he became vice president of Villanova College. He held this office until 1941.

From 1941 until his death, Father Albers suffered from poor health. During this period he resided at St. Augustine’s in Troy, New York; St. Mary’s in Lawrence, Massachusetts and at St. Augustine’s in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

He died in Bryn Mawr Hospital on July 2, 1944 at the age of 50. He is buried in the Community Cemetery at Villanova.
