Fr. Lorenzo Spirali, after serving 6 years at the church of El Cristo and the Colegio San Agustin in Cuba, and 2 years as Econome General in Rome, asked Cardinal Dougherty of Philadelphia for permission to start a mission band for Italian-speaking parishes.
