Please join the Lay Augustinians at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 16, as they welcome physicist Dr. Stephen Barr, who will discuss St. Augustine’s great insight about time having a beginning and how it dovetails with the understanding of modern physics. He will make the distinction between the beginning of the universe and of time, on the one hand, and the Creation of the universe. During his presentation he will answer the question of whether time and the universe in fact had a beginning, and what divine revelation, philosophy, and contemporary cosmology have to say about this.

Program Leader: Dr. Stephen M. Barr 
Dr. Barr is a theoretical physicist and professor emeritus of physics and astronomy at the University of Delaware, where he formerly directed the Bartol Research Institute. He received his Ph.D. in physics from Princeton University and is a fellow of the American Physical Society. Barr is also the founding president of the Society of Catholic Scientists and a prominent writer and lecturer on the relationship between science and religious faith. His books include Modern Physics and Ancient Faith and The Believing Scientist.
