This Day in Province History: April 7, 1861

Today is the anniversary of the death of Fr. James O’Donnell, at 55 years of age, one of the pioneers of the American Mission and first Augustinian pastor of St. Mary’s Parish in Lawrence, Massachusetts. 

Bishop Daniel Turley, O.S.A., Retires

On April 2, 2020, it was announced that Pope Francis had accepted the resignation of Bishop Daniel Turley, O.S.A. from the pastoral care of the diocese of Chulucanas, Peru, on having reached the age of retirement.

This Day in Province History: April 4, 1872

The body of Fr. James O’Donnell, first Augustinian pastor of St. Mary in Lawrence, Massachusetts, which had been buried in the school yard of the parish at his death in 1861, was removed to the Augustinian plot of St. Mary’s Cemetery. 

This Day in Province History: April 2, 1973

On this day a report on the Study of Objectives, Programs, Organization and Resources, known familiarly as “The Booz, Allen and Hamilton Report,” was issued to the Province to give guidance in future planning.

This Day in Province History: April 1, 1891

Prior General Sebastiano Martinelli published disciplinary measures for the American Province, as a sign of the increased stability of the Province transitioning from its missionary origins.
